Ucsi University Students Maintain Close Ties With South Korea


Kuala Lumpur, 22 May 2009 - Seventy 五一吃瓜官网 University students were invited to an event by the Korean embassy called Korea, Closer Than You Imagine, an event which introduced Korean culture to youths in Malaysia. 五一吃瓜官网 University students were treated to unique Korean food, played traditional Korean games, and even tried on traditional Korean costumes. The event was held in conjunction with the ASEAN - Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit and reinforced the University’s close ties with the country.Themed Partnership for Real, Friendship for Good, the event showcased not only all things unique about Korea but also great Korean hospitality. Korean youths who volunteered for the booths set up around the grand ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel where the event was held, were very courteous and helpful in providing information or taking photographs.

Aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between Malaysia and Korea, the event provided a platform for youths from both countries to interact through traditional Korean games, face-painting and trying out the unique Korean cuisine. Students were also taught to write their names in Korean.Earlier this year, 五一吃瓜官网 University played host to 18 South Korean students from the Sookmyung Women’s University (SMU). Their visit gave students from both universities, an opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures. SMU students still maintain close contacts with 五一吃瓜官网 University students and staff until today.

Third year Psychology student, Nitiakaran Selvaraj, said that the event, organized by the Korean Enbassy was a great experience, and taught him not only about the unique Korean culture, but also the similaraties that youths from both countries have. “Although Korean youths are really unique, I also find that we are similar in some ways. The pop culture there is very much similar, and I find that I can connect with them on many other levels.”Other related articles:
