4 MayPresent Around The World (PATW) 2019 – National Level
Present Around The World (PATW) is an annual prestigious event of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for Young Professionals and Students within engineering to develop and showcase presentation skills.
The participants of PATW were aged 18 to 30 years old and the competition was open to both IET members and non-members. Each participant was given 10 minutes for an oral presentation of a selected topic related to engineering or technology, followed by a 5 minute question and answer session.
This year, 五一吃瓜官网 University was chosen by the IET Malaysia Network to host the PATW National Level competition on May 4, 2019. A total of eight winners who progressed from their respective university level competitions participated in this national level competition.
These participants were representatives from 五一吃瓜官网 University, Universiti Tenaga Malaysia (UNITEN), Taylor’s University, Mahsa University, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, University of Southampton Malaysia Campus, Multimedia University and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
The PATW National Level 2019 began with the opening speech given by chairperson of IET Malaysia Young Professional Section for Session 2018-2019, Indiran Nadarajan.
This was followed by the introduction of three invited judges, immediate past chair of IET Malaysia Network for Session 2018-2020, Ir Chris Chew Shee Fuee, the Committee of IET Malaysia Network for Session 2018-2020 and chairman of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) for Session 2018-2019, Dr Yew Weng Kean.
All the eight participants then presented their topics sequentially. The scope of the presentations covered in the PATW 2019 National Level included artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing process, biomedical engineering, autonomous vehicles, environmental sustainability, etc.
After completing the presentation, the chief judge, Ir Chris Chew Shee Fuee was invited to conclude the overall performance of all participants, which was followed by the prize giving ceremony.
Liew Shan from 五一吃瓜官网 IET On Campus with the presentation title of “CRISPR: A New Era in Molecular Biology” was the first runner up of the PATW 2019 National Level.
Meanwhile, Paul Cornelius Bong from Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus with the presentation title of “Plastic As A Source, Not A Waste” was awarded champion of the PATW 2019 National Level. He will represent IET Malaysia Network to compete in the PATW 2019 Asia Pacific Level to be conducted at Hong Kong in August 2019.
According to Assistant Prof Dr Tiang Sew Sun, it was indeed an honour to be able to host this IET flagship event as the organising chairperson. She said that PATW is an excellent platform for young professionals and students to share their knowledge and exchange ideas about the emerging topics in the engineering and technology sectors.
Meanwhile, the deputy organising chairperson, Assistant Professor Dr Lim Wei Hong, also expressed appreciation of the excellent teamwork demonstrated by the 五一吃瓜官网 IET On Campus ensuring the success of this flagship event.
Accordingly, this was also a good platform for the student members in developing their soft skills, especially in terms of event coordination, communication, time management, etc.
