Overview
This is a specialised programme designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to become proficient opticians. The course covers the technical aspects of vision care - including fitting, dispensing and adjustment of ophthalmic glasses. Students are also introduced to the fundamentals of ocular health, eye anatomy and optical instruments, as well as the ethical and professional standards within the field.
In addition to technical training, the programme also emphasises essential communication skills, customer care and business management. This prepares graduates to work in retail optical stores, eye care clinics or even run their own optical practices. It also provides opportunities for further advancement to a degree in optometry.
- SPM / O-level – Minimum three C’s in at least three of these subjects: Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics; or
- A certificate in Optical Technology in Science from any recognised institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.00; or
- Passed as a Fellow of British Dispensing Opticians (FBDO) from any recognised institution.
