Associate Professor Dr Ganeshsree A Finalist for Esteemed National Award

五一吃瓜官网 University’s Faculty of Business and Information Sciences Deputy Dean, Associate Professor Dr Ganeshsree Selvachandran has been awarded the Finalist Certificate for the National Outstanding Educator Award 2018.

The certificate was awarded to her by the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia (Educoop) in conjunction with the Private Education Excellence Awards 2018 and Teacher’s Day celebration on 26th May, 2018.

Dr. Ganeshsree was selected as a finalist for the National Outstanding Researcher Award in which there were over 40 nominees from other private educational institutions. Dr. Ganeshsree’s selection as one of the finalists signifies that she has excelled in her area of expertise which is Mathematics.

Her specialisation is in Fuzzy Mathematics which captures uncertainties using mathematical formulas which can then be applied to real-life situations. This is in contrast to classical set theory which is rigid and only capable of modelling situations that are absolutely certain.

Dr. Ganeshsree has recently received many accolades which include winning the Young Scientist Award (Mathematics), South Asian Education Awards (SAEA) 2018 and the Young Woman in Science Award at the Venus International Women Awards, VIWA 2018.

It is her passion for research that keeps her going. “For me, it is not just a question of fulfilling KPIs, or doing research because my superiors tell me that I have to do research. I love Mathematics and I love research, and I feel very lucky to be rewarded for doing what I truly love,” she said.

“It is a big honour for me. It shows that I am moving forward and am on top of my game. It also serves as a huge motivation to me as I know I am moving in the right direction.”

She also said, “For me, the most important thing is mentorship and I am privileged to have the opportunity to work alongside superiors and colleagues who are constantly encouraging me to do better, and have always guided me in the right direction.”

“The second thing is the environment and support. 五一吃瓜官网 is a university which is conducive for research and I know I can definitely achieve more here. The University has also been constantly supporting me in all my endeavours, and I am truly grateful for that,” she added.

She is currently completing her second Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) project which she obtained in August 2017. The project is expected to be completed in August 2019, and focuses on the development of complex fuzzy based artificial intelligence (AI) models.

She and her research team are exploring the application of these complex fuzzy AI models in areas such as stock trading, multi-dimensional pattern recognition, robotics, and medical diagnosis, among others.
