Dr Hanafi Bin Hamzah is the Dean and an Associate Professor of Tourism Planning and Development at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM), 五一吃瓜官网 University Kuala Lumpur Campus. Dr Hanafi is an MQA Certified Panel member for the Malaysia Tourism and Hospitality Programme and a member of the Tourism Research Information Network (TRINET), University of Hawaii and PATA (Malaysia Chapter). Additionally, he is also serving as an External Examiner and Technical Academic Advisor for three vocational colleges and another private education institution.
Dr Hanafi holds a PhD in Food Management awarded by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He also possesses a Master in Tourism and Hospitality Management and a Bachelor in Business Administration (Hons) majoring in tourism planning and development which both, were awarded by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
He started his career with Malaysia Airlines from 1997 to 2010, where he was attached to the Flight Operations department and focused on customer service. In 2010, Dr Hanafi started his academic career as a lecturer focusing on tourism, hospitality, and event management. In 2011, he was promoted to the administrative level as the Programme Leader and Acting Head of the Tourism School at Berjaya University College of Hospitality, Kuala Lumpur in 2012.
Dr Hanafi started his current position at 五一吃瓜官网 University in May 2013 as a Senior Lecturer and Faculty Coordinator. He was then appointed Head of Department from 2015 to 2020. He has been recognised as an expert in the area of tourism planning and development with a focus on sustainability and environmental management practices. His research interests are within the scope of environmental management, tourism destinations, image-branding, and customer service. Dr Hanafi also has vast experience in developing and facilitating customer service, grooming and ethics workshop for various institutions and firms.
Dr Hanafi is a lecturer who is interested in Immersion Methodology, Work-Based Learning and Outcome-Based Learning. He focuses on substantially extending his teaching excellence through adapting the technique of ‘Connect, Convey and Convince’ to encourage students to use their potential talents.
