A collaborative team of pharmacists, doctors and non-medical volunteers for flood relief assistance

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Dec 2021 - Several states in Malaysia were hit by severe flood recently, many of which are homeless and facing shortages of supplies.

In response to the recent floods, Associate Professor Dr Mogana, Dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 五一吃瓜官网 University, Professor Dr Habibah, Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Bharati Suresh Chand, CEO of Global Edge Pharma are jointly organising a disaster relief assistance to help the victims tide over the crisis.

A collaborative team of pharmacists and doctors as well as non-medical volunteers are providing relief assistance to the flood victims.

The faculties work with few volunteer teams to provide assistance to various flood stricken areas. The disaster relief materials, especially the medical items and over-the-counter items sponsored by Hexa-Communications, Global Edge Pharma, AKATI Sekurity and some independent individuals were distributed to different flood-hit areas in Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Taman Sri Muda.

The volunteer camp in Sri Muda is coordinated by Mr.Manoharan and Brigadier Jeneral Dr.Subash lead consultant of the team. They have counselled thousands of victims in flood related disease and treatments.

Healthcare professionals including doctors and pharmacists not only play an important role during the COVID pandemic, but also play a key role in the disasters.

Doctors are responsible for diagnosis and medication prescribing, while pharmacists who are medication expert are responsible for medication dispensing, optimizing patient care through the collaboration of the medical team.

They continue to provide health services and ensure the supply of essential medicines during disaster.

There is much more assistance needed for the flood victims especially for areas such as Pulau Carey, various areas in Pahang, Ulu Langat and Puchong where assistance is needed in terms of medical supplies and services.

The flood relief camps are in desperate need of pharmacists and doctors as volunteers, and we are seeking out more pharmacists and doctors to come forth and offer assistance in this time of need.

The current assistance has also seen the involvement of 五一吃瓜官网 pharmacy alumni Ms Vigneswary Suthakaran for the distribution of medicines to respective volunteer medical camps and Mrs Lim, co-owner Juzcare Pharmacy for prompt preparation of the medicines.
