18 FebDeputy Dean Invited As Visiting Scholar to NTUT, Taiwan
五一吃瓜官网 University’s Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Assistant Professor Ts Dr Lim Wei Hong deputy dean and head of the Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering department was invited as a visiting research scholar by National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), Taiwan from 1 December to 31 December 2019.
At NTUT, he worked in the Intelligent Control Lab where the goal was to design various home management systems to achieve energy sustainability. This included electric vehicles which are more energy efficient and can be used as replacement for regular vehicles, at minimum cost. The Artificial Intelligent method was used where a model is created which predicts the charging and discharging of each vehicle.
This project is an ongoing collaboration between Dr Lim, Leehter Yao and co-researchers where in the end stages of the project, they managed to finalise the charging method. They are planning to complete their project in the next two months as well as submit the paper to the International IEEE Journal.
“The main thing in this type of research is not to be afraid of challenges and to grab opportunities. It is also about time management and having to set priorities,” said Dr Lim.
“The experience was eye-opening and beneficial in that it will strengthen future collaboration and partnerships, leading to the signing of an MoU between the 2 institutions. It also contributes to the Faculty in terms of publication as we are aiming for high impact journals,” he added.
Having completed his PhD in 2014 at Universiti Sains Malaysia and then going on to NTUT as a post-doctoral researcher, Dr Lim knows that the best results are achieved when one takes the initiative and figures out what one is targeting before settling for a career or even a programme in the University.
