2 SepEXHIBITING THE MERDEKA SPIRIT
Kuala Lumpur, 2 September 2010 - The 五一吃瓜官网 University Library organised a Mini Merdeka Exhibition in conjunction with the country’s independence on the 31st of August. The Exhibition featured the country’s journey towards independence, courtesy of the National Archive and the National Library.
In conjunction with the Exhibition, the University Library also organised Merdeka quizzes to test students’ general knowledge of the country’s independence. Five grand prizes were given away, while ten more were consolation prizes.
Second year Marketing student, Jenny Wong Fei Mun was one of the five to receive the grand prize after getting all of her answers correct. “I wanted to find out whether I could still remember what I learnt in high school on Merdeka. Looks like I still do!” she said during the prize-giving ceremony at the Library. The quiz has also seen participation from the University’s international students, with some garnering a consolation prize.
The Exhibition also featured books, newspaper clippings and a video showcase available at the Library for reference or borrowing, related to the country’s development. Students and staff were also encouraged to leave their signature and wish for Malaysia, at the Library notice boards. According to the Head of Library Services Puan Zuraini Mohd. Sayuti, close to 300 individuals have put down their signature, with more being added every day.
“We hope to organise this event annually, with a bigger and better exhibition next year,” she says.
The Exhibition continues until the 7th of September 2010.
