Head of Primary

The Head of Primary is part of the school leadership team and is responsible to the Principal for achieving the educational goals of the school and Ministry of Education. The said Head of Primary is responsible to promote the school and to achieve its vision and mission.
The Head of Primary has the responsibility of communicating information to all members of the school community, administering all internal and external assessment and acting as the primary point of contact between the school and external programme bodies.
Please note that this school is using Malaysia National Syllabus and this position is open only for Malaysian.
Responsibilities
- To be accountable for the continuous improvement of the school in maximizing student and school achievement
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of the school
- Carry out Principal’s duties during his/her absence
- Teach some periods according to the Principal’s instructions
- Be responsible for curriculum, administration, community relations and safety
- Assist the Principal in all aspects of school planning and management
- Be guided and be clear about the Philosophy of Education & Syllabus set by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
- Support and work towards the Vision and Mission of the School.
- Coordinate all curriculum programmes organized by school district education department, state education department and Ministry of Education
- Advise, guide and coordinate in the selection of text books, workbooks and other reading materials in the Resource Centre
- Prepare and set the Teachers’ Timetable and arrange Teachers’ Relief Timetable whenever necessary

Administration
- Responsible for the day-to-day management in the school
- Coordinate teachers’ duties and school admin
- Responsible for all matters relating to examination, assessment, courses and teachers’ development programs
- Responsible for the deployment of teachers and the assignment of their responsibilities, in consultation with the Principal
- Responsible for disciplinary matters through the Principal, involving students, which originate in or out of school. In the absence of a Principal, to assume direct responsibility.
- Responsible for daily matters such as students’ attendance, staff attendance, registers and covers
- Maintain and develop link between school and parents
- To lead regular meetings with respective section of school
- Responsible for collection and safe keeping of all data and information relating to curriculum
- Assist in all aspects of school planning and coordinate with other senior assistants in preparation of the Teachers’ Handbook before the new semester begins
Curriculum
- Monitor daily lesson plans, set school calendar and supervise Year Plan for all subjects and so on
- Make sure the subject committees run smoothly, is on track
- Assist in determining heads of subjects and other teachers’ duties
- Assist and guide academic heads/leaders, teachers, new teachers, interns/trainees in their daily tasks
- Assist the provision of educational technology equipment, resource centers, laboratories and workshops
- Review all types of reports related to the curriculum as well as recommend follow-up actions
- Determine the use and maintenance of educational resources

- Perform, implement instructions and tasks entrusted by the Principal from time to time
Leadership and Management

- Ensure jobs descriptions and performance management/appraisal for all staff are based on clear roles and responsibilities, reviewed at least annually and consistent with current conditions of employment
- Ensure that all policies are kept up to date, working closely with teaching staff and the Governing Body and principal
- Maintaining sound procedure for security, supervision and maintenance of the school environment ensuring that all health and safety regulations are met
- Manage your own personal professional development while ensuring the well-being of and a good work/life balance for all teachers
- Ensure all responsibilities delegated by the Principal/School Leadership are carried out
- Develop, and where appropriate manage, high quality extended services
- Undertake other such duties as may be reasonably expected
Academic
- Devise curriculum policy documents, an overall curriculum plan and schemes of work for the implementation of curriculum to meet the individual and collective learning needs of students in association with the Principal and Head of Subjects
- Lead in the design and implementation of curriculum, which inspires and engages all students
- Ensure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on student assessment and achievement, using appropriate data and benchmark to set, monitor, track and evaluate individual student progress
- Use the assessment results to inform overall curriculum planning, termly and weekly plans as well as day-to-day teaching so that classroom practice in the school meets the known needs of the students
- Maintain accurate and proper student records
- To monitor staff performance and curriculum delivery, undertaking disciplinary measures where appropriate; in association with the Principal/School Leadership
- Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies; aim for outstanding standards of learning and teaching at all times
- Meet at least three times a year with each school staff member within the respective section to monitor their performance and development plan
- Prepare and monitor with the Principal, a Personal Performance and Development Plan

?Communication
- Build effective relationship with all stakeholders through excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and taking and providing appropriate advice
- Ensure that all lines of communication within the school are respected and they are well known by all parents and staff
- Coordinate with all sections of school for smooth transition and continuity of learning
- Represent the school at educational conferences and making certain that other with curriculum development responsibilities also have this opportunity
- Produce written reports, as required, to the Principal, to the Board and any individual or organisation nominated by the School Leadership concerning activities and curriculum and student learning
?Marketing
- Devise and implement a marketing plan for the school and contribute to the school’s overall marketing plan
- Take every opportunity to promote the school’s values and purpose
- Ensure that others associated with the school also promote the school’s values and purpose
?Health, Safety and Student Welfare
- Participate in devising and implementing a health and safety policy in accordance with the national laws and the school’s policies and good practice
- Participate in establishing and maintaining an environment in which all users – student, staff and others – are safe
- Promote, through professional development and other activities, staff awareness of health and safety issues
- Promote, through the curriculum, teaching and other means, student awareness of issues affecting their own health and safety and those of others
- Participate in establishing and maintaining structures, procedures and a general environment in which students are supported academically, socially, emotionally and physically and in which they can develop in all these areas
- Any other duties delegated by the Principal that are required for this position.
Requirements
- BEd or equivalent
- Min 10 years of teaching experience
