The aim of this industrial visit to Northport Series 2, on March 6, 2019 was to shed light on the field of logistics in terms of career paths for logistics and supply chain students.
This was a programme organised by the Logistics Student Association (LSA) of 五一吃瓜官网 University where the committee took the initiative to request for approval to visit Northport.
Throughout the event, the speaker shared about Northport (Malaysia) Bhd situated in Port Klang, Malaysia which is a member of the MMC Group. It is Malaysia’s leading utilities and infrastructure group with diversified businesses under three divisions: ports and logistics, energy and utilities as well as engineering.
Also, Northport is one of the largest multi-purpose ports of its kind offering dedicated facilities and services to handle a wide variety of cargo ranging from containers to cars, break bulk cargoes as well as capacity to handle liquid and dry bulk cargoes of all types and shipment sizes.
Its facilities are in two locations - in Northport, Southpoint for conventional cargo handling and in Northport where the state-of-the-art container handling facilities are located. Northport logistics adds value to the business entity. The talk gave student a better understanding of Northport.
Besides this, there was a tour to view the entire process of the port. Northport offers viable solutions to shippers with its superior state-of-the-art facilities, including real-time smart information application system designed to guarantee operational and cost efficiency to sustain speedy delivery and vessel turnaround time.
The visit aimed at giving exposure to the logistics and supply chain management students about the various operations in the port. Overall, the trip was useful to the students, creating a platform for them to develop their knowledge and prepare for their future career path according to their interests. The session ended with Q & A session and a group photo.
