5 JulIndustry Visit to Gardenia
Shah Alam: 五一吃瓜官网 University's Logistics Student Association (LSA) organised a successful industrial trip to Gardenia which is Malaysia’s leading bread manufacturer. Gardenia produces numerous bakery products such as Delicia soft roll, squiggles chocolate and strawberry bread for worldwide consumption.
Led by the Head of Logistics Department, Asst. Prof Siti Norida Binti Wahab and lecturers, Ms. Nororsiah and Ms.Salini, 60 students from the Supply Chain Management (DL) and Inventory Management (DL) courses participated in this study trip to observe the complete process of bread-making.
Ms Aishah, Gardenia's Human Resource Manager, introduced their products and played their corporate video which presented the company history, core business of the company and the company’s future development plans.
In the ensuing Q&A, student came to understand that each bread takes as long as 8 hours to be baked as there are no short cuts allowed. Students also raised their concern on how does Gardenia keep their bread fresh daily in order to fulfil the needs of customer despite the long processing hours and challenging logistics issues. Ms Aishah assured that their loaf of bread is delivered to every retail store as early as 4am in the morning to provide fresh and healthy bread to consumers.
The students were then given a tour to the factory and got the opportunity to observe its operational activities. They also saw a giant oven whereby one ton of dough was being poured into the slicing machine for further processing. The students were impressed by the cleanliness and hygiene facilities and processes. Students were also delighted the trip and the Gardena souvenirs they received. This is one of the many industrial visits organized by the Logistics Student Association (LSA) to provide its students the opportunity to relate theory to industry application.
