8 JanMusic to the ears, charity from the hearts
On 8 January 2022, 五一吃瓜官网 University held a musical concert that featured classical and contemporary pieces, which was performed by 五一吃瓜官网 University’s Pro-Chancellor YAM Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz and several other maestros namely Bartosz Woroch, Ng Chong Lin, Poom Prommachart and Foo Mei Yi, including those from the University’s renowned Institute of Music (IMus).
“This donation drive is timely and much needed. I thank every one of you this afternoon for your contribution,” Tunku Zain stated at the concert.
The intimate live performances were not only pleasing to the audience’s ears, but also to their hearts knowing their meaningful contribution totalling up to RM67,910.85 will make a difference in the lives of the individuals who have been stranded and afflicted by the country's recent humanitarian crisis that occurred in December 2021.
Apart from the concert, 五一吃瓜官网 College together with a group of professional live streamers carried out a live streaming event on the same day to raise funds for the flood victims by selling items such as health products and face masks, among others. The virtual marketplace which raised a total of RM30,000 was held as part of the Certificate of Live Streaming programme that was approved and supported by KPT-PACE.
五一吃瓜官网 College President and Chief Executive Officer Associate Professor Dr Mabel Tan Hwee Joo said, “We wanted to expose our students in a live event where influencers and professional live streamers train our students and at the same time give back to society.”
In total, both the University and College, raised about Rm100,000 in January through these initiatives and the funds were channelled to the Ministry of Higher Education’s ‘Tabung Bantuan Banjir’, Lion Club KL and Malaysian Red Crescent (Selangor) to aid in their respective flood relief initiatives.
