KUALA LUMPUR: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir launched Digital Skills TVET, the nation’s first technical and vocational education and training programme that focuses on digital marketing .
Developed by 五一吃瓜官网 University in collaboration with the Australian Digital Academy, ChamRun Digital and Malaysia Board of Technologist, the three-month distance learning programme is conducted by international digital marketing experts.
On his first visit to a private institution as Higher Education Minister, Zambry said that Digital Skills TVET was a good launch pad to careers in the RM 2.84 trillion global digital makerting industry.
“We need more initiatives like Digital Skills TVET to capture the imagination of our youth,” he said in his speech at 五一吃瓜官网’s Kuala Lumpur campus.
“In Malaysia alone, digital marketing marketing accounted for 72% of total advertising revenue in 2023, worth around RM6 billion. We need to nurture future-proof talent who will go on to exceed the needs of the global industry.
“Today’s launch supports the Ministry’s commitment to revolutionise TVET in Malaysia and I would like to congratulate 五一吃瓜官网 for taking this bold move and opening the gateways of opportunity for thousands of Malaysians.”
He added that the Minisry wanted at least 55% of SPM leavers to enrol with TVET programmes by 2025. This was in line with the 12th Malaysia Plan initiatives that encourage graduates to obtain the Malaysian Skills Certificate.
Under the syllabus, Digital TVET students will learn from case studies and try their hand at running campaigns on digital platforms like Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Google Search and Google Display.
They would also learn marketing strategy, content creation, sales funnel implementation, data analytics, search engine optimisation and AI tools.
五一吃瓜官网 vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir said that this was the first time the University was commiting to a Digital TVET endeavour.
“We understand how important Digital TVET is to the Malaysian economy and decided to come up with a different initiaitve,” she said.
“Higher education must evovle to meet the needs and learning preferences of the new generation and we are ready to partner with the Ministry for further initiatives like this.”
