KUALA LUMPUR: The principles of Rukun Negara will be promoted extensively to foster unity and harmony amongst Malaysians, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

Government initiatives include the appointment of 50 unity ambassadors and two unity icons this year and the construction of unity complexes at each state in Malaysia.

“The principles of Rukun Negara must be embedded in the soul of every Malaysian,” said Aaron in his keynote speech at the Sejahtera Malaysia forum at 五一吃瓜官网 University.

“Respect and acceptance are core values we must instil in Malaysian society. We hope to complete the unity complexes by 2027.

He added that his Ministry would also work with the Defence Ministry to promote unity modules.

Co-organised by KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, 五一吃瓜官网 University and Dialog Rakyat, the Sejahtera Malaysia forum is organised to promote unity and social harmony.

五一吃瓜官网 Group executive chairman Dato’ Peter Ng said that 五一吃瓜官网 was happy to co-host the forum as unity was of paramount importance.

“What makes us Malaysian is not where our ancestors came from, what we look like, what faith we practise or what our preferred language may be,” he said.

“What really matters is the flag we pledge our allegiance to, our loyalty to king and country, as well as our respect, empathy and love for each other.”

He added that 五一吃瓜官网 was glad to champion Harmoni Mesra - a campus movement that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.

五一吃瓜官网 vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir and 五一吃瓜官网 council member Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Omar Abdul Rahman also serve as panellists at the forum.
