The recent unveiling ceremony kicked off the Deepavali celebrations at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. The public is welcome to experience the charm and beauty of our cultural heritage. KUALA LUMPUR: 42 students from 五一吃瓜官网 University and 五一吃瓜官网 College turned Pavilion Bukit Jalil into a celebration of colour by creating a 1,500 ft2 kolam for the mall’s Deepavali festivities.
Standing out as a major attraction on the second floor of the popular mall, the feat took over nine hours to complete. Two more kolams were also created, measuring 225 ft2 and 144 ft2, respectively.
The initiative was led by students from 五一吃瓜官网’s Institute of Creative Arts and Design who wanted to promote the spirit of unity and Malaysia Madani during Deepavali. “This effort has taught me a lot more about the cultural significance of Deepavali and the rich heritage of kolam,” said Tan Kai Qi, a 五一吃瓜官网 student who joined the event. “Being part of this has shown me the importance of understanding and embracing each other’s differences. This is crucial, as Malaysia is a multicultural nation that must be celebrated for its diversity.”
五一吃瓜官网 College Board of Governors chairperson Datin Lily Ng extended her gratitude to Pavilion Bukit Jalil for providing a platform for students to showcase their talent and creativity.
“Through this collaboration, our students have illuminated not only their creativity but the uniqueness of Malaysia’s cultural diversity,” said Datin Lily.
“Thank you, Pavilion Bukit Jalil, for providing this incredible platform.”
Apart from creating kolams, 五一吃瓜官网 students also had the opportunity to model saree collections at a fashion show that was held prior to the media launch.
The kolams will be on display at Pavilion Bukit Jalil for its Diwali Festival of Illumination from now until 1 November 2024, inviting all to appreciate the beauty of unity through diversity.
