Biography

Jacqueline Tan Poh Yin started to play the piano and violin at the age of 2 ? and 5 respectively and had done many solo recordings as pianist and violinist with RTM at the age of 5. She joined the Orkestra Simfoni Muda under the baton of Abdul Fatah Karim at the age of 9 being the youngest member of the orchestra and has actively performed throughout Malaysia and worked with other orchestras such as the Lancashire School’s Symphony Orchestra, the German Amici Music Orchestra and the Penang Symphony Orchestra. She was also the founder and permanent member of the “Baroque Players” music group under the direction of Ng Kah Ming since 1986 and had performed as soloist and chamber musician in various venues including University Malaya, The British Council, L’Alliance Francaise, Goethe Institute, Australian High Commission, Carcosa Seri Negara with Meinhard Prinz and Rumiko Nakata, MATIC and many more. She also participated as baroque violinist in a music workshop conducted by the famous Koln Baroque chamber orchestra.
 
After her A Levels, she left for the U.K. to pursue a double degree in Computer Science and Music (Hons) (majoring in violin performance) at the University of Leeds. She contributed to the life of the university by participating as violinist and baroque violinist with the Leeds Music Department Orchestra, the Department of Music Baroque ensemble, Leeds University Union Camerata and Leeds University Union Music Society under the baton of Eno Koco and Graham Barber. At Leeds she studied under Marat Bisengaliev and Raymonda Koco and has participated in masterclasses with, among others, Hugh Bean, Schubert Ensemble, Allegri String Quartet, Ronald Woodcock, John Holloway, the Late David Parkhouse and Dennis Lee. 
 
Upon returning from the U.K, she worked as an augmentist with the National Symphony Orchestra (N.S.O), Selangor Symphony Orchestra (SSO), Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra (KLSO), Penang Symphony Orchestra, Orkestra RTM,  Kamerata Kuala Lumpur and other music groups such as YinQi and Asia Musical Productions (AMP) under the baton of conductors such as Takahisa Ota, Mustafa Fuzer Nawi, Eugene Pook, Elaine Pao, Brian Chatterton (Australian Production: ”The Revenge of the Bat” – Based on the Die Fledermaus opera by Johann Strauss), Tommy Tallarico (Video Games Live), Yannis Pouspourikas (“Kingdom Hearts” Orchestra World Tour 2017), Paul Baker, Woon Wen Kin, Yuan Leow Yunn and others.
 
She also played amongst other professional musicians for prestigious award ceremonies such as Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL), Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM), Anugerah Radio Era, Akademi Fantasia, Anugerah Bintang Popular (ABP), Kilauan Emas, Mentor, One in a Million, Konsert Ceria Megastar, Konsert Gegar Vaganza, Shout Awards, Anugerah Meletop Era, Anugerah Blockbuster Awards (Astro) Golden Eagle Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Royal Islamic Finance Awards, Bursa Malaysia Awards, Johor Bahru Arts Festival and Anugerah Skrin (ASK). 
 
In addition to that, she has also done numerous performances for live and recorded television shows such as RTM, TV3, NTV7 and Astro, corporate and private events both as acoustic and electric violinist for Martell, Mouwad, NARS, Bursa Malaysia, YTL, Ernst and Young, Petronas, Shell, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Toyota, Toshiba, Mild Seven, Hennessy, Siemens, ECOWorld, Samsung, AEON, Amway, CIMB Bank, DOM Perignon, Prestige Magazine, Royal Islamic Bank, Siemens and many more.
