25 MayA Visit To The Italian Baker Sdn Bhd
五一吃瓜官网 University’s Logistics Student Association visited The Italian Baker Sdn Bhd, a well-known Massimo bread manufacturer, in Pelabuhan Klang. The purpose of the visit was to provide students an opportunity to gain insights on the factory layout of the bread manufacturing company.
A total of 40 students from the MSc in Logistics Management, BA (Hons) Logistics Management, BA (Hons) Supply Chain Management and Diploma in Logistics Management programmes, accompanied by Faculty of Business and Information Science Lecturer Salini Devi Rajendran, seized the opportunity to obtain new ideas, knowledge and experiences.
The visit was officially facilitated by Nur Ain Akma Abdul Malik, Event Coordinator and Administration Executive of The Italian Baker Sdn Bhd. Introducing them to the company, she explained that The Italian Baker has three production lines of bread which are loafs, rolls of bread as well as cakes.
With regards to the layout of the factory, the company is able to achieve efficient and effective production by planning their layout in a straight line starting from raw materials, the manufacturing production to warehouse and lastly delivery.
A loaf of bread takes eight hours to produce. Five hours are required for rolls and two hours for cakes. The Italian Baker Sdn Bhd operates 361 days per year, stopping only for two days during Chinese New Year and two days for Hari Raya.
The delivery services are handled by a third party. The most important part of the visit was observing how the factory layout affects the production efficiency in order to save cost and time.
This was a very good orientation of warehouse and distribution management which is one of the core areas in Logistics Management studies. LSA will continue organising these kinds of visits to different companies which will help students improve their understanding on warehouse operations and related logistics.
