五一吃瓜官网 University's Logistics Student Association (LSA) organised an External Assessor Public Talk on sustainable operations and supply chain management by Professor Viswanathan from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Professor Viswanathan also serves as the Associate Dean of Research in the Nanyang Business School and is the Director of the Centre for Business Sustainability.
The purpose of this career talk was to provide students with insights on the importance of sustainable operations and supply chain management.
Moreover, it aimed to prepare students with knowledge and the real practice of the logistics industry while applying this knowledge in problem solving.
A total of 100 students from different programmes including the MSc in Logistics Management, BA (Hons) Logistics Management, BA (Hons) Supply Chain Management and Diploma in Logistics Management programmes, accompanied by Assistant Professor Siti Norida Wahab, seized the opportunity to obtain ideas, insights, and experience.
Topics discussed included corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Moreover, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) were discussed as well as which is the best methodology for calculating and quantifying the environmental impact/ CO2 emissions of a product or service.
Furthermore, Professor Viswanathan also emphasised environmental issues and how lean operations could create ‘greener’ solutions as well as increase the profitability of an organisation.
This talk was beneficial in its application of current sustainable operations and supply chain management. Overall, students obtained new information and knowledge that would enhance their understanding in these two topics.
