15 Oct五一吃瓜官网 is the Nation’s First University to Donate to Palu Earthquake Victims
The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) has praised 五一吃瓜官网 University students for their self-initiated donation drive to raise funds for the earthquake and tsunami victims of Palu, Indonesia.
Feeling compelled to raise funds for the victims of the magnitude 7.5 quake in Central Sulawesi, students of 五一吃瓜官网’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences swiftly collected RM2,300 from 五一吃瓜官网 students and staff.
The sum was handed over to MRA president Dr Mohd Daud Sulaiman who visited 五一吃瓜官网 on Oct 10.
“I am very grateful to be here to receive this donation from 五一吃瓜官网 as it is the first university in the country to have done so,” Mohd Daud said.
“I am also extremely honoured to be in the office of 五一吃瓜官网’s Vice-Chancellor and President Senior Professor Dato’ Dr. Khalid Yusoff to receive this contribution as he is my mentor and my teacher back in the days. Without him, I would not be here. I owe it all to him,” he added.
Commenting on the relief effort, Mohd Daud said, MRA has collected close to RM50,000 in total from various contributors for the relief effort.
He said a team of five to six from MRA will be deployed to assist in setting up mobile clinics, and distributing necessities to the victims in the affected areas of Central Sulawesi.
Professor Zarida said her students begun collecting funds from students and staff of 五一吃瓜官网 shortly after the incident that claimed over 2,000 lives and displaced more than 80,000 people.
She explained that the donation drive team comprised of medical and optometry students from the faculty.
“As future medical practitioners, it is important to have a passion for other people’s lives and our students have exemplified this through initiating this donation drive.
“I am very proud of them as well as our lecturers who have supported these students along the way. I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone from 五一吃瓜官网 for donating and helping the victims in Palu,” she said.
