11 MarA Tour to AIMS Data Center
KUALA LUMPUR: The School of Information Technology (SoIT) under the Faculty of Business & Information Science (FoBIS) of 五一吃瓜官网 University, in collaboration with Exabytes Sdn Bhd, had organised a tour to AIMS Data Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
The AIMS Group of Companies (AIMS) is Malaysia and South East Asia’s leading provider of premium carrier neutral data centre and managed services. Part of TIME dotCom Berhad (TIME), AIMS also has a presence in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Additionally, AIMS is the anchor site for the Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX) and hosts all domestic and more than 80 percent of foreign telecommunication carriers based in Malaysia. Supporting more than 200 customers, AIMS owns and manages approximately 50,000 square feet of secure data centres that are on par with international standards.
A group of 10 IT students and a lecturer from SoIT participated in this tour. Students have gained valuable experience and insights on the real working environment of a data centre and how it functions. They also obtained useful information related to the practical aspects of the educational course to better help them understand their classroom lessons. After the tour, AIMS and Exabytes also conducted a career talk for the students where they shared that internship positions and permanent positions are available all year long.
As part of its annual activities, SoIT often organises regular industrial visits for the students to provide consistent practical training exposure to actual industrial practice.. The ultimate goal of this tour is to help students gain practical knowledge over and above the theoretical concepts that they learn in to help them become competent IT graduates who meet industry expectations.
Students found that activities like this are very interesting, especially when they are given the opportunity to visit a data centre such as AIMS. AIMS is one of the very few data centre players in the country that possesses technical skills, capabilities and operating experiences that offers a complete spectrum of data centre and managed services.
