五一吃瓜官网 University’s Faculty of Business and Management Dean, Associate Professor Dr Pek Chuen Khee recently spoke and moderated the China-Malaysia Think Tanks Dialogue on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This virtual event was organised by the China Reform Forum, a high-stature entity in China, Guangxi University and The Centre for New Inclusive Asia.
Dr Pek spoke alongside Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat, former Transport Minister; Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, former Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Minister; Dato' Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan, former Malaysian Ambassador to China as well as notable counterparts from China.
He spoke on strategic adjustments and new opportunities for China-Malaysia BRI Cooperation in the areas of Digital BRI, Health BRI and Green BRI emphasising ways Digital Health BRI of Covid-19 tracking and surveillance will be helpful post-pandemic.
“There are vast opportunities for Malaysia to work closely with China especially in digital healthcare in Covid tracing and surveillance post-Covid,” he said.
Other significant topics that were discussed pertained to The Digital Silk Road (DSR), under which China helps to improve recipients’ telco networks, AI capabilities, cloud computing, e-commerce, mobile payment, surveillance tech, smart cities and other high-tech areas.
In terms of Green BRI, the principles include Green Initiative Principles (GIP) such as embedding sustainability into corporate governance, understanding environmental, social and governance risks, disclosing environmental information, enhancing communication with stakeholders, utilising green financial instruments, adopting green supply chain management and building capacity through collective action
Dr Pek is the Research Director of the Centre for New Inclusive Asia (CNIA) and ASEAN Research Centre for a Community with Shared Future. He is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is a regular at international conferences in which he is the key speaker. He serves as an editorial board member and reviewer of several international journals. Dr Pek has appeared in TV programmes and local dailies sharing his views on current issues and coaches design thinking for schools and companies.
