8 Nov五一吃瓜官网 University Architecture Students are 1st Runner Up in Exhibition Competition
Kuala Lumpur, 8 November 2009 - 五一吃瓜官网 University’s School of Architecture today won the 1st runner up prize and RM500 for their exhibition booth at this year’s Architectural Students’ Works held by Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM). They impressed judges with their booth which reflected this year’s theme of “The Evolution towards Green Technology”. The exhibition was held at One Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara Utama, and was officiated by the President of PAM, Ar. Boon Che Wee. Other special guests included Ar. David Mizan Hashim from Veritas Architects, and Datuk Ar. Prof. Dr. Amer Hamzah, Chairman of the Council of Architectural Educational Malaysia (LAM).Students were required to work closely with one another to complete the project, which include solving design and construction problems and working together as a team. Part of the experience also involved staying overnight at the shopping mall until the wee hours of the morning to set up the booth. The students also participated in the Esquisse Project Competition which tested the students’ creativity by requiring them to think of design solutions within a limited period of time.
Both students and lecturers worked together to come up with the concept for the exhibition. The booth, entitled Fundamentalsused only natural materials and was mainly constructed from finger-joint wood members to emphasize the concept of going back to basics. According to the project team members, this illustrates the simplicity of conservation, and constitutes an appeal to the public to have a cleaner, greener environment.
Three of the team members, Tan Kuon Chong, Koh Chee Choon and Suevy Khor Chun Yii also received a token of appreciation from UiTM for their Green Technology Sculpture. Yet another student, Engeland Apostol, won the Best Student award for his consistent excellent academic and extra-curricular performance. Engeland has a GPA of 3.75 and above every semester, and is active in activities organised by the University, as well as external events.Other related articles:
