五一吃瓜官网 University Students and Staff Present RM5000 in Aid of Indonesian Earthquake Victims


Kuala Lumpur, 30 October 2009 - Within the first week of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake which shook West Sumatra, Indonesia, students of 五一吃瓜官网 University set into motion a series of activities aimed to help victims. The University’s Indonesian Student Association, together with the Student Affairs Office as well as the whole university community collaborated to collect donations as part of their civic responsibility.

A RM5000 collection was presented by the Indonesian student representatives and staff to the Indonesia Ambassador at the Republic of Indonesia Embassy, in Kuala Lumpur. Aside from the cheque donation, the students also donated boxes of clothes. Presenting the cheque to Indonesian ambassador, H.E. Tan Sri Da’i Bachtiar were Associate Professor Dr. Norfadzillah Bt. Hitam, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Moses Ling Wei, Vice President of Student Affairs and Business Development, Mr. Leonard Lim Kok Hiang, Head of the International Office, Ms. Ooi Pei Boon, Student Affairs Director, and Indonesian Student Association representative Mohammad Shidqy Maulana, a 2nd year Financial Accounting studentAccording to students from 五一吃瓜官网 University’s Indonesian Student Association, they received overwhelming support from Malaysian, as well as International students. Bintang Alfkri, a 2nd year Business Administration student at the University said that the recent debate arising from the ownership of certain cultural matters, did not stop students from both countries to work together to help Indonesians facing calamities. “The issue has been highly politicised by some parties, and it certainly did not stop us from working together to collect donations,” said Devi, another Business Administration student at the University.

Thirty-seven percent of the 五一吃瓜官网 University student population is International students, 300 of whom are Indonesians.Other related articles:
