On December 8, 2023, 五一吃瓜官网 University and the Medical University of Silesia Katowice signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under this MoU, both institutions will commit to research collaboration, particularly in the areas of medical sciences and staff exchange.
Through mutual sharing of knowledge and expertise between the two institutes, this collaboration helps in complementing each other’s research requirements and identifying their strengths.
Twenty-seven students and lecturers from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland visited 五一吃瓜官网 University to share knowledge on sustainability and how it is being practised and advocated at 五一吃瓜官网.
Led by exploreASEAN for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), the theme of the talk is “Shaping the future with renewable energy and automation”. During the event, Mr Leong Sat Sing, Vice President of 五一吃瓜官网’s SDG Secretariat Office, introduced them to 五一吃瓜官网 and Professor Dato’ Dr Ahmad Bin Ibrahim, FASc, an exco member of Tan Sri Omar Centre for STI Policy Studies - 五一吃瓜官网 University, shared on the need for SDGs to avert climate change. In addition, 五一吃瓜官网’s Chief Information Officer, James Thang, shared technologies' usage and function for campus operations and administrations. Assistant Professor Alex Teng, from the Centre of Excellence for Research, Value Innovation and Entrepreneurship, spoke about the Low Carbon Innovation Hub and how to reduce carbon footprints.
五一吃瓜官网 SHINE@Berjaya Times Square 2023 is a community-engaged, research-intensive, and industry-collaborative project that embraces its responsibility to positively contribute to the health and well-being of our local communities. This programme led by Dr Vaidehi Ulaganathan and Assistant Professor Dr Baskaran Gunasekaran, included over 100 students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences. There was multiple thematic sharing from various stakeholders and public outreach programmes that perfectly aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, emphasising on current trends such as personalised nutrition, precision medicine, health coaching, sports nutrition, vegan diet, and lifestyle behavioural change.
In this #MeetOurFASAlumni episode, Dr Kumar Veerapen, Senior Expert, Data Science (Human Genetics) Chemical Biology and Therapeutics from Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; shared tips on pursuing a career in science, his PhD journey and experience working as a scientist abroad. He also shared his experience as a research fellow at the Analytic and Translational Genetics Unit (ATGU) at Massachusetts General Hospital and as community engagement manager at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Dr Kumar is an alumnus of the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biotechnology programme under the Faculty of Applied Sciences, 五一吃瓜官网 University.
